Christopher J. Hicks was sworn in as the 37th District Attorney for Washoe County on January 5th, 2015.  DA Hicks has devoted his professional career to achieving justice and promoting public safety. Mr. Hicks joined Washoe County District Attorney’s Office in 2005, after having served the citizens of Carson City as a prosecutor from 2002 until 2005.  He served Washoe County as a Deputy District Attorney and Chief Deputy District Attorney until his successful election in 2014.
 
Mr. Hicks has successfully prosecuted thousands of cases including such notable ones as State of Nevada v. Chaz Higgs involving the murderer of Nevada’s elected State Controller Kathy Augustine, and State of Nevada v. James Michael Biela involving the abduction and murder of Brianna Denison and sexual assault of two other University of Nevada-Reno students. He serves on the Nevada Attorney General’s Prosecutor Advisory Council and is the President for the Nevada District Attorney’s Association, as well as several other criminal justice boards and Nevada Supreme Court Appointed Committees.
 
Mr. Hicks is active in the community volunteering as a Youth Mentor at the Maison T. Ortiz Outdoor Youth Skills Camp, judging local high school mock trial competitions, and coaching youth soccer and basketball. He serves on the Board of Directors for 360 Blueprint, a local reading and relationship based program serving Washoe County youth.
 
His father, Federal Judge Larry Hicks, served as the 32nd Washoe County District Attorney.  They were sworn in 40 years apart.  Former Washoe County District Attorney and the late State Senator William Raggio was his cousin.
 
District Attorney Hicks is a proud 5th generation native northern Nevadan and is committed to the continued success of our community.  He is father of a son and three daughters, and his wife is also a prosecutor for the office and the Executive Director of Washoe County’s Child Advocacy Center.
