Aimal Halim - Afghanistan
Former Interpreter for U.S. Military in Afghanistan

It's been a long road from the days since Aimal lived in a tent under a bridge in Kabul with his mother and sister, cold and hungry.  As a young man, Aimal watched American movies in Afghan coffee houses and learned to speak english.  That lead him to become an interpreter for Nevada National Guard Officer, Kurt Neddenriep, and the U.S. Military.  Brought to Nevada by U.S. Soldier Neddenriep, Aimal attended UNR and earned his bachelor's degree in political science, received a Rotary International Peace Fellowship, and earned his master's degree from the University of Bradford in England.  Aimal became a U.S. citizen in 2018 and started the process of bringing his family to the United States.

Then the coronavirus hits, and then the rest is Taliban.  No Embassy and it's impossible to get out of Afghanistan.

Aimal will be speaking about the realities of the collapse of Afghanistan, the struggles there now and the realities for Afghan refugees right here in Reno.
