Aerosol are tiny particles or droplets in the air around us. Historical records of aerosols developed from polar ice cores are powerful tools for reconstructing the timing and extent of natural and human-caused changes in Earth’s environment during past centuries to millennia.
 
Dr. Joe McConnell is a Research Professor in Hydrologic Sciences at the Desert Research Institute in Reno. He holds degrees in Geology, Geophysics and Hydrology from Yale, Stanford, and the University of Arizona. Much of Dr. McConnell’s work focuses on ice-core studies of climate and human impacts.
