As Nevada’s oldest cultural institution and only accredited art museum, the Nevada Museum of Art has established an international reputation for its wide range of educational and public program offerings, and original scholarship as expressed through recent exhibitions and publications such as Tahoe: A Visual History; Late Harvest; 36th Star: Nevada’s Journey from Territory to State; and Modernist Maverick: The Architecture of William L. Pereira. Like Reno/Sparks, the Museum is growing in numerous ways and attracting attention, institutional partners, and new financial resources from throughout the country, and world. Hear a special update from David Walker, executive director and CEO of the Nevada Museum of Art who believes that today’s art museums have a responsibility to be creatively and actively engaged with their community, as well as the larger world.
 
Born in Santa Monica, California, Mr. Walker joined the Nevada Museum of Art as executive director and CEO in 2007.  In addition to establishing a new vision and strategic plan for the museum, he launched the museum’s Center for Art + Environment, an internationally-recognized research and archive initiative.
Previously, he served 11 years as the Dean of Public Programs at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.  David received a Bachelor’s Degree from Humboldt State University and did his graduate work at the Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design.  He currently serves on the board of directors for the Burning Man Project.
